It is with sadness that we bring news that long-standing East Coast OGA member, Mike Robertson has passed away this month.
Mike Robertson from Holbrook died on 1, August 2025 in Ipswich Hospital after a short stay, having had dementia for the last three years. Mike worked in IT at Anglian Water for many years, whilst serving on the East Coast OGA Area Committee and continued his involvement later into retirement. He discovered, during his time with us and in the company of Jon Wainwright, that they both shared a passion for model railways. I remember several sub-committee meetings ‘playing trains’!
Mike sailed the gaff yacht ‘Lillibullero’ for ten years from 2011 and before her a 19’ jolly boat which was regularly sailed out of Holbrook Creek. He was also the moorings master there for some time. Members may remember too that Mike did a great rendition of the Stanley Holloway monologue ‘Three Ha’pence a Foot’ for our amusement.

Mike was the main instigator of the OGA visits to the Royal Hospital School at Holbrook, River Stour which featured in the East Coast calendar as a popular ‘small boat’ event for several years. On one of these occasions, all the boats dragged anchors, even ‘Lillibullero’ and ‘Transcur’!
Mike will be missed by all, and as I write this, I am looking over from Wrabness to Holbrook. Cheers Mike!
Funeral arrangements
2 September, 2025 at Seven Hills Crematorium, Ipswich, then afterwards at Royal Harwich Yacht Club.
Mike leaves his wife Sandra and sons Ashley and Clive – our thoughts and best wishes are with them at this sad time.
